IPAD HELP and Freebie

Happy New Year Everyone!!!  I need some assistance...I just got an IPAD (yeah!!)  but I don't know what I "need or should have" downloaded on it.  Does anyone have any good APPs that they use on the IPAD that I should look into??  And do you use it in the classroom???  If so, how?  I don't have a Smartboard in my classroom, but I do have an Elmo and a Projector.

Now for the freebie part...As a thank you for your help, I will give any one item of your choice in my TPT or my new TN store free to the first 10 people who give me a new APP or tool I should use on my IPAD.  I already downloaded Pandora, Facebook, Pinterest, and Xfinity.  I can't seem to download TPT as it says it's only for IPhones.

To get a freebie, please leave me your idea and your email.  Please don't repeat ideas as I would love to have more ideas than repeated ideas.  Thanks in advance everyone!  :)

  2. Tracey,
I love Sock Puppets! It's a cute app that lets you make a short puppet show on any topic you like. There are several puppets and backgrounds to use and the voices can be changed so that it doesn't sound like you. My class has had a lot of fun with this app! It's very cute and fun! I've used it to introduce a topic to kids. I had my class record a show in pairs on technology inventions - it came out great! Have fun with you new toy!

  6. I love using Remind101 and Instagram to keep my parents in the loop. Remind101 allows you to send text messages to parents to remind them of important events or just class updates. I have a personal Instagram and a class account. I post photos of class work and things we are working on day to day. I love the concept of 3Ring but haven't been able to get it to work every time.

I second IFont maker so much fun!

  7. Hi I recently got my iPad too and the best app for my classroom is splashtop. It allows you to control your computer or your laptop from your iPad. I can wonder all around my kids and still control anything on my computer as opposed to be tied to the computer in one spot. It is really awesome. Hope this helps! Angie

  8. Hi again! Sorry for another answer but I just thought of another app. It is notability. It's like a notepad but better. You can make multiple files and folders in each file. There's different fonts and colors too. You can email from it too. Most of the teachers at my school use it for notes at all our meetings instead of paper and pen now. Some classes that have class sets of iPads have the students do all of their assignments on notability and email them to the teacher. Of course, the kids are so ugh better than we are.

  9. Yay, iPad fun! :) First, I would recommend Apps Gone Free. It's an app that I check daily for updates about free apps, usually ones that are free only for a limited time. I've found some great educational apps for free on it, as well as productivity apps and just fun games for myself.

There are adapters you can buy (around $20 I think) to hook your iPad up to your projector so the whole class can see what is being done. Search for 'ipad to projector adapter' on Amazon to see options... just make sure it works for your projector model.

One of my class' favorite reading apps is a free one called Bluster by McGraw-Hill. It's for 2nd-4th grade and reviews rhyming words, prefixes, suffixes, homophones, synonyms, etc.

I would also recommend Scholastic's Storia app. When you sign up for an account and download the app, you will get several free e-books. I also purchase additional e-books with my book order bonus points. Not sure what makes it so cool, but the kids LOVE when I do read-alouds from the iPad.

    Hope this helps!

  10. Rover! It lets you do Flash sites on the iPad.

DropBox is also a must for easily moving files between the iPad and your computers (home and school, if you have them).

Others I like? RRCalc (running records), Google Translate, ScootPad, RocketMathFree, Zoom, Hungry Fish, Sushi Monster, Storia, Futaba, Chicktionary, Spelling City, Science360, NASA, Encyclopedia Brittanica, Merriam-Webster Dictionary, EduCreations, ToonTastic, Hooked On. So many! :)

Phonics Genius is an amazing app. I found it when it was free for a bit, but it has flashcards for all different sounds. So if I'm working with a kid or group on "au," I can pull up lots of "au" words. Most are a bit longer, too, which is great for 3rd grade. WELL worth it.

Finally, you HAVE to follow http://bestappsforkids.com/ especially on their Facebook page- they post a lot of free apps or temporarily free apps.

    Hope that helps :)

  12. Class Dojo and Kid Picker are my two favorites for my iPhone, hopefully they have them for iPad too!

Class dojo is a classroom management tracker with cute little avatars and sounds that's 3rd graders love and it's super easy to use!

Kid picker is like your typical Popsicle stick in a cup deal "but you can't cheat" as one of my kids pointed out today. It also picks groups and takes attendance into account. It's also super easy to use.

Have fun! Hope these work for you!!!

    2. Hey Tracey, thanks for stopping by my blog! Have you set up your class Dojo yet? I let my kids pick their own little monsters/critters. I also keep Dojo pulled up on my computer (hooked up to speakers) and every time someone earns a point/ding it will sound on the computer and show on the screen. Its such a great reminder for my kids to keep doing great work, or check themselves if they need to.

Anyway, my email is reyesremarkablerants@gmail.com and I'd love your shared writing journal prompts (they're actually on my wishlist) or if that won't work, I'd love your valentine writing papers. Thanks!

  13. I'm a new follower! :) I've been exploring apps for the ipad over break as well! I saw someone mentioned Sock Puppets...it's awesome! Another really neat one is Show Me! Students can draw/talk and record something. For example, they can do a math problem and explain what they are doing. You can save it and everything then! :)
