Let's Get Acquainted Linky

 

I'm joining up with Mrs. Reed from Flying into First Grade for her first linky party called "Let's Get Acquainted".  What you have to do is share 3 things about yourself that you like or like to do using your initials. 

 

 My initials are TAS so I will choose 3 things starting with those letters.

T- is for technology. 

 

I feel that I still have soooooo much to learn about technology, but in the last 8 months since I started blogging I've come a looooonnnnngggg way.  I own my very own IPAD now (which I'm still trying to figure out how to draw on so that I can start making my own borders...any hints????).  I have a Facebook and Twitter page for my blog (which I don't update enough).  I even learned how to make things using Powerpoint to use in my classroom.  Like I said I have a long way to go, but I feel so much more techy now then I did last school year!

 

 

 

A - is for always reading. 

 

I love to read.  I use my Nook all the time.  Originally I didn't want a Nook.  I was one of those people who only wanted to read a real book...now I couldn't live without my Nook.  I love mystery stories, especially those by Janet Evanovich or Mary Higgins Clark.

S - is for smiling. 

 

I love to smile and laugh.  I find by adding humor into my day makes the day seem to go faster.  My 7 year old and I keep track of funny jokes we tell each other.  My students know I do this so lately they are writing down funny jokes so that I can share them with my son.  Ya gotta love that!

 

Here is a joke that two of my boys told me today:  What did the 500 pound mouse say to the cat? 

Here kitty kitty.  I know, right???

 

 

Okay now stop laughing at my corny joke (it was from my students, not me) and go link up with Mrs. Reed...  And p.s.  If there are any spelling mistakes, I'm sorry...but the spell check on Blogger wasn't working tonight.  Anyone else having troubles with Blogger lately???

 

Monday Made It

 

 

I haven't linked up for this in awhile.  I find it hard to keep up with it all during the school year.  How about you?  But I did it for this month!

Here is what I've been up to at home.  Digital Scrapbooking....oh my gosh how fun my son and I are having with this.  We make everything in PowerPoint and then we print it out to put into a scrapbook.  I don't know about you, but I used to LOVE to scrapbook.  I found that I couldn't keep up with it.  So around Halloween I started playing around with all the cute background paper and clip art I buy.  My son got into it and....tada!

I can't believe how easy it is to keep up with pictures.  I have almost all of this school year done.  I don't have a couple of years before this one done, but that will come. 

And here is some school stuff- I recently blogged about how I just figured out how to make pennant banners. YEAH!!!  I know, the simple things that get us excited!  I'm so happy with how they turned out.  I made one for St. Patrick's Day, Easter, and Spring.

Here is a picture of the St. Patrick's Day one I put up on my chalkboard.  Sorry...I couldn't fit it in one picture. 

 

I taped bright colored ribbon on the backs so they would be easier to hang.  They lay better with the tape then glue, I found.  My students thought it was super cute...and they are excited because I told them I would be changing them each season.


And here are some motivational posters I made for my classroom.  I think they turned out well...and my students look forward to what I will be putting up the next week!

March Door

Quick blog today....here is a picture of my March door.  Isn't it hard to decorate your classroom this time of year?  I mean I put up St. Patrick's Day and now I'm adding some Easter things.  Some teachers in my building just decorate for Spring.  I should do that, but I like these two holidays too much!

 

I had the students write their name in each line of a rainbow. 

Then they had to write an acrostic poem describing themselves and color it

just like a rainbow.  Aren't they cute???

 

Here are my cute leprechauns.  They are holding hands...super cute, huh? 

I have them on the top of the door and on the bottom.

Now I have to start thinking about changing it...already!

Test Taking Bulletin Board

We start state testing this week!  If you read my blog last week, you read that my school district isn't going as crazy preparing as we used to.  Due to the common core test PARCC coming, we are going to see how our students do with our curriculum and not with coach books.  Fingers crossed...

 

 

One thing I had my students do was come up with test taking hints.  The students had to come up with an IDEA to help the class out with test taking.  Here is a picture of the board and some of the light bulbs.

This one is cute...it says "On ISAT you should do your best on the test and study as hard as you can.  And remember that you can do it."

 

 

Can't you just hear their teacher coming through???

Motivational Posters

My family just finished watching all of the Harry Potter movies over the course of two weekends.  Okay we were kinda addicted!  After we finished the last one I got kinda sad.  I mean my 7 year old and I looked forward to movie night with Harry.  Since I missed Harry, I started going on pinterest to find Harry Potter stuff and saw a quote from Dumbledore.  It said..."Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." 

That started me onto making my own motivational posters in my classroom.  I have a bulletin board where I put up a character education trait and a motivational poster each week.  The character education trait is something we look for with our classmates to fill someone's bucket.

The first poster I put up was the Dumbledore quote. We had a great discussion about what it meant.

Now instead of store bought posters, I've been adding my own creations.  I've been getting more positive feedback from my students with my own posters than with the store bought ones! 
Here are some of my new motivational posters.  I tried using clip art that the students would recognize.  I used book characters, movie characters, famous people, etc for my posters.

I started playing around with these and the next thing I know it...I made 24.  And there are still more I'm thinking about.  Isn't it crazy how you just starting making one thing and then....BOOM....hours later you made a whole bunch?!?!?  Whatcha think???
